Yallambee Classic 2011 Results From Morphettville

The 2011 Yallambee Classic has been won in tremendous style by the Mark Kavanagh trained Shrapnel.

After being sensationally backed in to $5 in the closing minutes from double figure odds, Shrapnel quickly became a cash cow with the punters and he certainly didn’t disappoint.

Jockey Michael Rodd unwillingly went to the front but wasn’t left with much of a choice after the horse flew from the gates and no other runner wanted to sit on the pace.

From there it was plain sailing never really being threatened on his way to claiming the Group 2 crown.

It’s a good consolation prize for Kavanagh who had the favourite King Diamond in the Adelaide Cup which was beaten to fifth.

“He’s more than a very good horse,” Kavanagh said.

“We bought him as a stallion prospect and you’d have to think he’s halfway there now.”

From here the plan isn’t set in stone but he’s certainly well and truly on his way to being a very profitable sire.

All he needs is that elusive Group 1 victory to complete his resume.

“I’m not decided yet about where he’ll go next but you may see him in the Galaxy in Sydney,” Kavanagh said.

“The Goodwood is not out of the question, but we’ll just sit down and work out how to build his record.”

Second place in the 2011 Yallambee Classic was claimed by Happy Trails with General Truce third.

With he favourite Obsequious missing out it was a very profitable trifecta with online bookmaker Luxbet paying better than TAB odds.
