2011 Blamey Stakes Final Field – Flemington’s Super Saturday of Racing

Flemington’s Super Saturday of Racing 2011 will take place this Saturday March 5 featuring an elite line-up of Group races including the $250,000 Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m).

The 2011 Blamey Stakes final field and barrier draw was released today with 10 gallopers set to contest Flemington Race 4 at 1:15pm (AEDST) on Saturday.

Sure to open at the top of the Blamey Stakes betting odds at our preferred online bookmaker Luxbet is weight-for-age star Whobegotyou.

The Mark Kavanagh-trained Whobegotyou resumed for the season running a game second to More Joyous in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 26 before which the Street Cry five-year-old ran third in the 2010 Cox Plate.

Whobegotyou jumped from barrier 10 with 59kg for his first-up run in the Futurity.

On Saturday he has again drawn barrier 10 which should present no problem over the mile and drops back in the weights to 58kg making Whobegotyou the pick of the Blamey Stakes field.

Futurity Stakes third placegetter Dao Dao is also backing up in the Blamey Stakes on Saturday, the Hawkes-trained seven-year-old having run second to Wall Street in the 2010 Emirates Stakes.

Likely to improve second-up this year, Dao Dao presents a decent danger to Whobegotyou especially as they meet him 3kg better under the set weights plus penalties conditions and after drawing ideally in barrier two.

The other horse with genuine claims in the Blamey Stakes this year is the Mick Price-trained Spacecraft.

Jumping from barrier seven with Craig Newitt in the mount, last start on February 26 this up-and-coming Galileo four-year-old ran a game third to Heart Of Dreams in the Group 2 St George Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield.

Spacecraft carried 59kg in the St George and will hugely advantage from the drop down to just 54kg they are set to carry in the Blamey Stakes.

Out to cause an upset 2011 Blamey Stakes result are the likes of:

  • Doubtful Jack (Peter G Moody) – Improving Not A Single Doubt four-year-old ran seventh in the Futurity but is down in the weights and drawn well in barrier four here
  • Fanjura (Lee Freedman) – Mornington-trained six-year-old resuming for the season after a solid spring, jumping from barrier five with Craig Williams aboard
  • Roadtrain (Tony Vasil) – Consistent three-year-old gelding coming off a fourth place finish behind Dusty Star in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 12

The 2011 Blamey Stakes betting odds are due to be released at Luxbet shortly.

In the meantime, early prices are now available at Luxbet on the 2011 Australian Cup, the two Group 1 features highlighting the race-card at Flemington this weekend.
