This Saturday is Blue Diamond Stakes Day at Caulfield, one of the biggest days of Group racing during the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival, and as part of the elite race line-up the $125,000 Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) will take place.
The headline event at the meeting is the highly-anticipated $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) where unbeaten colt Sepoy is the odds-on favourite to take out Victoria’s premier juveniles’ showdown.
Other features on the Caulfield race-card this Saturday, February 26 include the $500,000 Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) where glamour mare More Joyous will start the favourite and the $400,000 Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) for the sprinters.
A set weights plus penalties race for mares aged four and over, the 2011 Mannerism Stakes has drawn 18 nominations.
Notable Mannerism Stakes entries this year include:
- Avienus (Mark Webb) – Has a Group win to her name but was dead last first-up at Flemington last Saturday
- Culminate (Darren Weir) – Resuming for the season after a short three-start spring that included a win in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1600m) at Flemington
- Majestic Music (Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas) – Al Maher mare trained in Perth coming off a lengthy five month spell
- Varenna Miss (Tony Noonan) – Well-bred Redoute’s Choice mare looks the pick of the field after running second to Beaded in the Group 3 Hyderabad Race Club Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 12
The 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes final field and barrier draw will be released tomorrow while the field of acceptors for the other Saturday features including the Mannerism Stakes are out on Wednesday February 23.
