Nominations for the 2011 Hobartville Stakes, one of the feature Group races running at Rosehill’s Sliver Slipper Stakes meeting this Saturday, have been released with 15 three-year-olds entered.
Top-rated nominees for the $200,000 Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) this year are Pressday, Skilled and Masquerader.
Chris Waller’s local Domesday colt Pressday is heading towards a run in the Australian Guineas on March 5.
A Group 1 winner, Pressday resumed for the season with a disappointing eighth place finish in the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 12 and will be looking to improve over the more suitable 1400m of the Hobartville.
The Peter Snowden-trained Commands colt Skilled is also heading towards a start in the 2011 Australian Guineas and was far more impressive first-up this year when finishing third, beaten less than a length by winner Master Harry, in the Royal Sovereign.
Snowden has also nominated his multiple Group winner Retrieve for the Hobartville on Saturday.
Randwick trainer David Payne has nominated his Caulfield Guineas third placegetter Masquerader for the Hobartville after the Lucky Owners three-year-old finished sixth in the Royal Sovereign, the colt also more suited to the longer distance on Saturday.
Payne also has Victoria Derby runner-up Praecido entered for the Hobartville after the One Cool Cat finished last in the Royal Sovereign.
Other noteworthy three-year-olds vying for a spot in the 2011 Hobartville Stakes field include the Graheme Begg-trained Ilovethiscity who ran an eye-catching fourth in the Royal Sovereign first-up and Gerald Ryan’s Magic Millions 3YO Guineas third-placegetter Top Drop.
The 2011 Hobartville Stakes’ final field and barriers are out on Wednesday and Races.com.au will be the first to publish them so bookmark us.
