Mornington Stakes Race Field & Tips 2011

The 2011 Mornington Stakes is set to take place this afternoon as part of the top-class racing action of Mornington Cup Day and here we have the exclusive tips for Mornington Race 7.

The $100,000 Listed Mornington Stakes (1200m) field currently features 13 gallopers following the early scratching of #4 Concinero and #12 Johnny Fiasco.

Favourite in the Mornington Stakes betting odds is #4 Launay paying $3.50, in from their opening quote of $4 at our preferred online bookmaker Luxbet.

Drawn ideally in barrier three, the Peter Snowden-trained Lonhro gelding Launay is resuming for the season following back-to-back wins at Flemington during the spring.

Last start the Group 2 placed four-year-old won by over a length in a 1600m event on Emirates Stakes Day and the punters are backing them to return to form with a first-up win today.

However, with a field of classy gallopers set to face off in the Mornington Stakes today the Races.com.au team are tipping an upset with #1 Secret Flyer.

2011 Mornington Stakes Tips – Mornington Race 7 Betting

  • Best Place / Exotic Bets: #2 Captain Coltish, #5 Launay and #15 Little Gem

Secret Flyer

Secret Flyer

The Mark Young-trained seven-year-old Secret Flyer is rated an $11 chance to win today at Luxbet and we think they represent excellent value.

Secret Flyer, unlike many runners in the Mornington Stakes field, has plenty of Group race experience including their last start fifth in the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on January 28.

It has been awhile between drinks for Secret Flyer, not having won since August of 2009, but today we are tipping a big improvement from the son of Secret Savings who has been unluckily placed in black type features in recent starts.

For punters wanting to get in on the exotic betting markets Luxbet offer like the Quinella and Trifecta wagers we have also selected our other favourites to finish in the top four today.

Peter Moody’s five-year-old Captain Coltish is the $5 second favourite in the Mornington Stakes odds.

Resuming after a lengthy nine month spell following their last start 12th in the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap (1200m) at Morphettville in May last year, Captain Coltish looks set to return to his stakes winning form this season and will run second today.

Launay’s career record cannot be ignored and they should be included in the Trifecta, while Little Gem is a nice little roughie at $17 in the markets to add in your First Four or Box Trifecta picks at Luxbet.

The 2011 Mornington Nissan Hareeba Stakes is due to jump at 3:20pm (AEDST) this afternoon as Race 7 on the Mornington card.

Head to Luxbet now to take advantage of our tips or to lock in your own picks at the best prices in Australia.
