Twenty fillies and mares have been nominated for this Saturday’s $100,000 Listed Triscay Stakes (1200m), one of three black-type features on the Apollo Stakes Day card at Rosehill for February 19.
Leading the 2011 Triscay Stakes nominations is Gai Waterhouse’s multiple Group winning filly More Strawberries.
More Than Ready three-year-old More Strawberries was accepted for the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick last Saturday but was a late scratching from the event due to nasal discharge.
More Strawberries, runner-up to Secret irer in the Group 1 Coolmore Flight Stakes (1600m) last spring, is now set to resume in the Triscay against older company on Saturday.
Coming off two winning barrier trials at Randwick during January, More Strawberries will not be ridden by regular hoop Nash Rawiller in the Triscay, Jim Cassidy booked for the mount instead.
Top-rated entry for this year’s Triscay Stakes is the John Thompson-trained Run For Naara, also the top weight of the field with 58kg.
Another four-year-old mare by More Than Ready, Run For Naara is resuming after a disappointing season spring season most recently having run dead last in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on September 4.
Thompson is also likely to be represented by his Sharmardal mare Happy Hippy in the Triscay Stakes field on Saturday.
Other notable nominees for the 2011 Triscay Stakes include the Clarry Conners-trained Dorf Command, Peter Snowden’s speedy daughter of Lonhro Trim, the David Payne-trained Girl Hussler and Dane Shadow four-year-old Hurtle Myrtle.
The feature event at Rosehill on Saturday is the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) where the likes of Centennial Park, Danleigh and Hot Danish have been nominated.
The Apollo Stakes Day final fields, including the acceptors for the Triscay Stakes, will be released tomorrow and published here at Races.com.au followed by our exclusive Sydney race tips so stay tuned.
