Sepoy is the clear favourite for the 2011 Blue Diamond
The $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) is Rosehill Garden’s main autumn event and premier online bookmaker Luxbet have installed the Peter Snowden-trained Sepoy as the early $8 favourite to become the 2011 Golden Slipper winner.
The Elusive Quality colt won the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) on debut at Flemington back on October 3 and then cruised to an impressive three length victory last start in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Caulfield on January 26.
The 2011 Blue Diamond Prelude running this Saturday, February 12, is next on the agenda for Sepoy and a win in this Group 3 showdown will only confirm his favouritism in the Golden Slipper markets.
Second favourite in the 2011 Golden Slipper odds at Luxbet is Karuta Queen paying $11.
Neville Layt’s Not A Single Doubt filly Karuta Queen kept her perfect race record intact on January 15 when she stormed home to win the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Class (1200m) at the Gold Coast by three lengths, now boasting four wins from four starts.
Pane In The Glass occupies the next line of Golden Slipper Stakes betting at Luxbet as the $13 third-elect.
John Thompson’s classy Testa Rossa filly is another unbeaten two-year-old having won all three of her race starts to date including the Inglis Nursery / Inglis Classic double at her most recent starts.
Other top fancies in the futures markets for this year’s Golden Slipper all at a quote of $15 through Luxbet are:

- Anthony Cummings’ Fastent Rock colt Smart Missile who won the Listed NSW Breeders Plate on debut last October
Longer-priced Golden Slipper Stakes hopefuls that could prove great value bets for punters getting in on the generous early odds at Luxbet include Peter Snowden’s Redoute’s Choice filly Glissade ($19), two-time winner Hollyweird ($21) and Peter Moody’s Blue Diamond Fillies Preview winner One Last Dance ($21).
Last year talented filly Crystal Lily won the 2010 Golden Slipper Stakes having won the fillies’ edition of the Blue Diamond Preview as well the Listed Chairman’s Stakes (1100m) and Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m).
The 2011 Chairman’s Stakes is running at Sandown today, Wednesday February 9, transferred after the abandoned Caulfield meet last weekend.
Favourite for the Chairman’s Stakes is Lee Freedman’s much talked about debutant Atomic.
Atomic is currently a $26 chance in the opening Golden Slipper Stakes odds at Luxbet, but a win today will see them shorten so keep an eye on the markets.
The 2011 Golden Slipper Final Field will be released on Tuesday, 29 March 2011.
