Sepoy has rocketed up the Blue Diamond Stakes betting markets to be the clear favourite
On Wednesday January 26, the Peter Snowden-trained colt Sepoy and Peter Moody’s filly One Last Dance both won their Blue Diamond Previews at Caulfield, maintaining their unbeaten records.
In the Blue Diamond Colts & Geldings Preview Elusive Quality colt Sepoy was never challenged coasting to an impressive three and a half length win over Grand Britannia, with $1.75 favourite Golden Archer in third.
Sepoy, who won on debut in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at Flemington on October 3, went out as an $8 chance in the Preview but proved too strong and too fast for his fellow two-year-olds.
After the emphatic Blue Diamond Preview win, [sportsbet] slashed their price on Sepoy, now the clear $5 favourite to win the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.
Runner-up Grand Britannia is a $31 Blue Diamond chance at Sportsbet, while the addition of blinkers or winkers on beaten favourite Golden Archer will improve their next run in the Prelude according to trainer Peter Moody.
One Last Dance is now second favourite for the Blue Diamond Stakes
Going out as the $2.40 favourite on Wednesday, One Last Dance had to dig deeper than Sepoy, as she fought hard for her gritty victory beating the fast finishing Anevay by a nose with Graskop nearly two lengths away third.
Following their close second in the Preview, the Tim Martin-trained Exceed And Excel filly Anevay shortened into a $13 chance to win the Blue Diamond Stakes in the online markets.
Third placegetter Graskop, stablemate to Sepoy, is sitting at around $21 in the Blue Diamond markets.
Sepoy and One Last Dance are now expected to back-up in their respective divisions of the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preludes (1100m) at Caulfield on February 12.
There has been so much hype regarding the quality and ease of Sepoy’s win on Wednesday that the question has arisen whether the colt can become the first two-year-old since Bel Esprit, sire of super sprinter Black Caviar, to win the Blue Diamond Preview, Prelude and Stakes treble.
Odds on the duo are also likely to shorten early next week when the list of hopeful juveniles heading towards the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes field is narrowed down with the closing of the Blue Diamond third declarations on Tuesday, February 1.
Other horses sitting at the top end of the current Blue Diamond Stakes futures odds include Gerald Ryan’s Snitzel filly Hollyweird ($11), unbeaten Dane Shadow filly Holdontoyahorses ($13), the John Thompson-trained Boys On Tour ($15) scratched from the Preview field and instead making their debut this Saturday, Flying Spur filly Satin Shoes ($15) and Peter Snowden’s Redoute’s Choice filly Glissade ($15).
