On Saturday Brandy Lane scored victory in the $80,000 Listed G.A. Towton Cup (2200m), one of the three black-type features that took place at Ascot Racecourse for Kingston Town Classic Day on December 4.
The Ray Saw-trained Brandy Lane was coming off an impressive second in the Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2100m) and proved their potential as a top stayer backing up with a win in the 2010 G.A. Towton Cup.
Ridden by Winterbottom Stakes-winning jockey William Pike, Brandy Lane ($4.20) was given a beautiful run settling third on the inside before hitting the front on the straight and holding off Mega Steel ($9) to win by a short-head in a blanket finish.
The Lou Luciani-trained Guyno ($4.80), former winner of the Perth Cup, was the same distance away again for third in a brave run after getting caught three-wide without cover early.
Marooned gelding Brandy Lane has now won five of their 24 career starts for $160,390 in prize money.
Connections have named the Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) on New Year’s Day as the main aim for Brandy Lane.
