Chris Waller’s five-year-old gelding Metal Bender has been ruled out of the 2010 Melbourne Cup, forced to miss the $6 million handicap next Tuesday after bleeding from the nostrils after his Mackinnon Stakes run at Victoria Derby Day today.
Metal Bender was sixth on the Melbourne Cup order of entry and considered one of the genuine chances, however is now out of the Cup field after incurring an automatic three month ban from racing in Australia after bleeding from both nostrils following his dismal 11th place finish in the Mackinnon.
It is a massive blow for Chris Waller and connections, now without a runner in the 2010 Melbourne Cup field.
After the earlier report that both Dariana and Jessicabeel will also miss the Melbourne Cup, many of the horses further down the ballot get a chance to move into the line-up including Bauer, Red Ruler, Precedence and Mourayan.
