2010 Victoria Derby Barrier Draw – Melbourne Cup Barrier Draw this Saturday

Today at noon the 2010 Victoria Barrier Draw took place, with the Peter Snowden-trained Retrieve coming up trumps with gate two for the feature race at Flemington’s opening Melbourne Cup Carnival meeting this Saturday.

Last start winner of the Norman Robinson Stakes at Caulfield, Rahy colt Retrieve is now poised to bring his already impressive career record to five wins at his ninth star in the $1.5 million Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) on Saturday.

The other early favourite in the Victoria Derby field, Rekindled Interest, has drawn mid-field in barrier eight.

Due to be ridden by Dwayne Dunn, who was aboard Rekindled Interest last Saturday in their strong AAMI Vase victory, barrier eight should suite the Redoute’s Choice gelding as they jumped from gate seven in the Vase.

Another top fancy, consistent Savabeel gelding Digital Fortress, has suffered a blow and will have to overcome a wide barrier 14 draw if they are to improve on their last start third to Retrieve in the Norman Robinson on Saturday.

Other runners that drew poorly in the Victoria Derby draw include classy Kiwi galloper Lion Tamer in gate 18 and David Payne’s Group 1 placegetter Praecido with barrier 12.

Betting markets on the 2010 Victoria Derby, set to run as Race 6 at Flemington on Saturday, will open shortly so stay tuned for the Derby odds and our exclusive tips.

The other highly anticipated barrier draw punters have been waiting for, the 2010 Melbourne Cup Barrier Draw, will take place this Saturday live from Flemington Racecourse at 6:30pm (AEDST).
