This Saturday the next feature meeting of the 2010 Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival will take place at Caulfield with the running of Caulfield Guineas Day and today the final field for the headline event, the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), was released.
The 2010 The Age Caulfield Guineas final field features 16 of the season’s best three-year-olds, lead by early favourite Toorak Toff.
Rick Hore-Lacy’s highly rated colt Toorak Toff has enjoyed a stunning start to the spring, claiming victory in the Vain Stakes and Golden Rose Stakes last month.
Most recently Toorak Toff ran an eye-catching second to Anacheeva in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude, the million dollar stakes earner ready to claim his sixth career victory on Saturday.
Peter Moody’s Caulfield Guineas Prelude winner Anacheeva is another top colt that will be at the top of the Caulfield Guineas betting for Saturday.
The son of Anabaa is seeking his third consecutive win after victories in the McKenzie Stakes and Guineas Prelude and will be ridden by regular jockey Luke Nolen on Saturday.
Other three-year-olds with claims in the Guineas showdown include the David Payne-trained Masquerader and Ilovethiscity.
Grahame Begg’s Magic Albert colt Ilovethiscity could prove the value pick of the field following a stunning win in the Newcastle Spring Stakes three weeks ago from a wide barrier 14 draw.
Ilovethiscity also finished a gallant third in the Golden Rose back in August and is tipped to improve again on Saturday.
Also entered for the Caulfield Guineas are the three horses that ran the trifecta in the Stutt Stakes at Moonee Valley last start with winner Hollowlea due to be ridden by Nick Hall, runner-up Run For Levi and third placegetter Bullbars.
Barriers for the 2010 Caulfield Guineas will be out soon as will the odds on all the runners at Sportsbet.
