In the upset race result of the weekend, Gai Waterhouse’s ‘unbeatable’ galloper Herculian Prince failed to place and was well beaten by No Wine No Song in the $125,000 Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality Handicap (2400m) at Randwick.
Backed into the hot $1.40 favourite, start five-year-old Herculian Prince jumped well and held the lead early but faded to finish dead last in the five horse field while veteran nine-year-old No Wine No Song coasted to victory.
In a close finish the Kevin Moses-trained No Wine No Song ($6.50) beat stablemate Get Up Jude ($18) by a mere neck with Legsman just a further short-head away third.
Next over was Streetfighter ($21) with Herculian Prince eventually crossing over eight lengths back from the winner.
It was an impressive performance by No Wine No Song who with Jim Cassidy aboard carried a hefty 58kg to victory for their 10th win from 56 starts increasing their career earnings to over $1.37 million.
The failure by Herculian Prince did little to stop the punters keeping him as the $5 favourite at Sportsbet to take out the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2040m) this Saturday at Randwick.
Moses’ Colin Stephen quinella runners No Wine No Song and Get Up Jude will also back up in Saturday’s The Metropolitan, currently paying $8 and $19 to win through Sportsbet.
