Saturday is looking bright for premier Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse who will start a number of her stable stars in the races at Randwick including Herculian Prince in the $125,000 Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality Handicap (2400m).
The 2010 Colin Stephen Quality has drawn a diminutive field of just five runners with last start winner of the Kingston Town Stakes Herculian Prince the odds-on favourite.
Heavily backed by the punters after drawing on the rails with barrier one, five-year-old Herculian Prince is at $1.33 to win through Sportsbet and looks to make the Colin Stephen a one horse race.
The two other horses that could provide value are No Wine No Song drawn in barrier five and Legsman in barrier three.
The Kevin Moses-trained No Wine No Song finished fourth to Herculian Prince in the Kingston Town Stakes but has been heavily weighted with 58kg for the Colin Stephen.
John O’Shea’s Legsman is a better lightweight chance to place with just 53kg and will be ridden by Blake Shinn.
Waterhouse also prepares the two hot favourites in the marquee race at the meeting, with More Joyous and Theseo dominating betting for the $350,000 Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m).
Lightly raced Encosta De Lago gelding Halekulani is also well positioned in barrier three to cause an upset at good odds in the $175,000 Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1400m).
Meanwhile unbeaten gelding Pureness, one of three horses lining up in the $125,000 Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m) for Waterhouse, is equal second favourite to win.
