*Note Captain Sonador has been scratched from the 2010 Shannon Stakes
A final field of 14 horses aged three and over have been accepted for the $175,000 Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) at this Saturday’s Rosehill race meeting.
Top picks in the 2010 Shannon Stakes include the Gai Waterhouse-trained Once Were Wild and Joseph Pride’s Neeson.
Four-year-old Johannesburg mare Once Were Wild is coming off a solid second place in the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes at Wyong and is vying for a spot in the 2010 Melbourne Cup at Flemington this November.
Once Were Wild is currently a $31 chance in the Melbourne Cup betting markets at Sportsbet and after drawing ideally with barrier three for Saturday, the Glyn Schofield mount is likely to start at the top of the Shannon Stakes odds.
Drawn two wider with gate five is our other top fancy, Mossman gelding Neeson.
Neeson ran fifth first-up in the Show County Quality last month and was super impressive winning the Tramway Quality at Randwick two weeks ago.
Warwick Farm-based trainer Pride will also start his improving Choisir mare Sacred Choice drawn in barrier six and coming off a fourth place to Neeson in the Tramway.
