2010 STC Winter Stakes Preview – Peter Moody’s Ghostmilk the Favourite

The headline race this weekend will be the STC MYER Winter Stakes (1500m), a quality Listed race offering $100,000 taking place at Rosehill Racecourse.

Twelve top gallopers will take to the Sydney track in the 2010 MYER Winter Stakes seeking black-type victory before the end of the winter racing season.

Six-year-old Golan mare Ghostmilk, prepared by premier Caulfield-based trainer Peter Moody, will start as the pronounced favourite currently paying $2.80 for a win at [sportsbet].

Ghostmilk was a late scratching from last weekend’s VRC Winter Championship Final at Flemington, where her stablemate Doubtful Jack went on to claim an emphatic victory.

Drawn ideally in barrier five for Saturday and coming off a succession of successful runs, veteran runner Ghostmilk is definitely the horse to beat and is hard to go past in the [sportsbet] betting markets.

Other top chances include the Graeme Rogerson-trained Illuminates and David Payne’s Madibagold.

Sitting as the $4.80 second favourite at [sportsbet], five-year-old Strategic mare Illuminates was a last start winner of the Listed Civic Stakes (1400m) at the same track and is a classy runner with over 50 race starts to her name.

Drawn out wide in barrier 12 Illuminates is the topweight with 58kg, will be ridden by experienced hoop Corey Brown and with a bit of luck will jump well and give a good chase.

Representing local trainer David Payne, four-year-old Johannesburg gelding Madibagold is the third elect at $7.50 through [sportsbet]. Madibagold finished third to Illuminates in the Civic Stakes last start and looks a good horse for a Place bet.

Meanwhile leading Warwick Farm-based trainer Peter Snowden will start two from his stables in the STC Winter Stakes with Gergis and Falaise starting from barriers two and four respectively.

Both are paying $9 through [sportsbet] and coming off good runs in the Civic Stakes also, seven-year-old Falaise finishing second and four-year-old Gergis not disgraced in fourth.

Other feature Listed races scheduled for this Saturday include the $100,000 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Moonee Valley and the $75,000 Belmont Classic (2200m) for three-year-olds at Belmont Racecourse in Western Australia.
