This Sunday Allan Scott Park Morphettville will host the 125th running of the coveted $300,000 Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) as part of the great racing action of the Unley Telstra Show Super Sunday.
The 2010 Goodwood is sponsored by Distinctive Homes and has drawn a final field of 17 quality runners with just one Group 1 winner amongst them, Rostova.
The Steve Richards-trained Testa Rossa filly took out the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at the same track two starts back ahead of fellow Goodwood hopeful Velocitea.
Rostova then backed up with a run in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Randwick, but she could only manage a fifth place finish, which is why she has drifted slightly in the betting markets out to $7.50 with [iasbet].
On Sunday, reunited once again with jockey Steven King, she will jump from barrier two on the outside of the Mick Price-trained Velocitea, who has drawn ideally on the inside rails and who has been installed as the $5.50 second elect with [iasbet].
The clear pre-race favourite for the Goodwood on Sunday at $3.50 is four-year-old Catbird gelding Catapulted.
Trained by Mark Kavanagh, Catapulted is coming off a last start win in the Group 3 D C McKay Stakes (1100m) and looks well positioned to step it up and claim an elite level victory.
Drawn in barrier 12 and due to be ridden by Simon Price, Catapulted is seeking his eighth victory from just 11 starts and is equal topweight at 55.5kg with last start Victoria Handicap winner Orbit Express.
Representing good value at $15 for a win at the moment with [iasbet] is the Richard Jolly-trained Very Discreet. The four-year-old Exceed and Excel mare secured an eye-catching victory last start in the Listed Oakbank Stakes (1100m) on Easter Saturday and will jump from barrier six in the Goodwood, where she carries the lightest weight, just 53kg.
Other top runners in the 2010 Goodwood include veteran seven-year-olds Motspur in barrier 10 and the Peter Snowden-trained Falaise in barrier four, and Peter Moody’s Captain Coltish coming off an impressive win at Flemington in the Listed Schweppes Trophy (1400m) and drawn in barrier seven.
You can catch all of these great runners in the Goodwood as race seven at 3:35pm.
Other events at the Morphettville meeting include the $300,000 Group 1 SA Derby (2500m) where the Peter Snowden-trained Kidnapped is the pre-race favourite, the $200,000 Group 3 RA Lee Stakes (1600m) and the $100,000 Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m).
