2010 AJC Sires Produce Stakes Final Field & Preview

From this Saturday the Royal Randwick Racecourse becomes home to the remainder of the exciting race meetings for the Sydney autumn carnival with the AJC Australian Derby Day next on the agenda.

The thrilling meeting features nine great races including three Group 1 events. The programmed highlight is the $1.3 million AJC Australian Derby (2400m) followed by the $500,000 T J Smith Stakes (1200m) with the third richest event on the day being the $300,000 AJC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m).

This year the AJC Sires Produce Stakes is sponsored by Inglis and has attracted 12 young two-year-olds seeking a prestigious Group 1 victory early in their careers.

A number of juveniles coming off a run in the coveted Golden Slipper last Saturday are again aiming at glory in the AJC Sires Produce Stakes, including the warm pre-race favourite More Strawberries currently a $2.25 chance with [iasbet].

The Gai Waterhouse-trained More Than Ready filly ran a gallant third to Crystal Lily in the Golden Slipper and will be looking to do one better and secure her first career win after three frustrating minor placings.

More Strawberries has drawn ideally with barrier three for Saturday and will be ridden by Nash Rawiller.

Another Golden Slipper runner backing up with a run in the AJC Sires Produce Stakes is current second favourite at $3.20, Hinchinbrook.

The Gerald Ryan-trained Fastnet Rock colt placed fourth in the Golden Slipper last weekend and has also drawn well for Saturday in barrier two, due to be ridden by Damien Oliver.

Other chances in the 2010 AJC Sires Produce Stakes include Peter Snowden’s three starters Skilled, Blackball and Divorces drawn in barriers five, seven and eleven respectively.

The 2010 Inglis AJC Sires Produce Stakes will run as the sixth race on the meeting’s bumper nine-event card and is scheduled to start at 3:00pm (NSW time).
