Small Minds Wins Schweppes Oaks

Recently appointed as the head trainer for Nathan Tinkler?s Patinack Farm stables, John Thompson secured an impressive Group 1 quinella at Morphettville on Saturday when Small Mind won the $300, 000 Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (also known as the Australasian Oaks) ahead of stablemate No Evidence Needed.

Coming off a last-start victory in the Listed Adelaide Guineas, Canny Lad filly Small Minds ($26) put in a tremendous effort to beat home No Evidence Needed ($7), who made a late challenge for the win, by a mere neck with Danny O?Brien?s Ipioga ($9) in third.

The pre-race favourite Speedy Natalie failed to finish after bucking over the first couple of hundred metres before being taken out of the race, which was another blow for trainer Peter Moody after he had to scratch Set For Fame from the Group 1 Coolmore Classic in Sydney also on Saturday.
