This Saturday Flemington is set to host another exciting race meeting, highlighted by two feature events, the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1410m) and the Listed Kensington Stakes (1000m).
A number of runners are using the Chester Manifold Stakes as a lead-up to the coveted Group 1 Australian Cup on March 6. One such horse is five-year-old Zagreb, trained by David Hayes and ridden by Steven Arnold, Zagreb has drawn wide with gate 12 on the 14 horse field and as such is at long-priced odds of $26.
Due to jump from barrier 8 is Pacino, also on the Australian Cup trail after being nominated by trainer Clinton McDonald. Pacino is more favoured with the bookies at around $13 for a win.
But the warm pre-race favourite at $4.50 is the Darren Weir-trained Time Matters, carrying the top weight of 59kg. Ridden by Damien Oliver the Christmas Stakes third placegetter will start from barrier five.
Filling the next line of betting is the second favourite at $6.50 is Ship In The Night, the Mark Young-trained runner starting from gate seven with Danny Nikolic aboard.
In the Kensington Stakes, the Mark Young-trained Secret Flyer and Common Interest, trained by Lee Freedman are battling for favouritism. Secret Flyer (barrier 3) is at $3.80 just ahead of Common Interest (barrier eight) on $4.
The other fancied runner in the feature is Morgan Dollar at $5. Trained by Stuart Gower, Morgan Dollar has drawn barrier five.
The Chester Manifold Stakes is the first of the two headline events, running as race six at 4:05pm (VIC time) followed by the Kensington Stakes, race seven on the eight-race programme due to start at 4:45pm (VIC time).
