Peter Snowden’s Kidnapped won the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) on Saturday in a strong display of class and determination by the promising three-year-old.
It was not a trouble-free ride however, as jockey Kerrin McEvoy had some early issues with the large, and at times inelegant, gelding. Favourite at $2.10 going into the race, Kidnapped found the Sandown hill slightly challenging and had to fight hard for victory after quality filly Majestic Music stole the lead inside the 200m.
Kidnapped managed to fight back for a half neck victory, while Majestic Music ($5) was gallant in defeat and impressed many. Turf Express finished a distant third.
Despite the less than ideal victory, Snowden still believes Kidnapped has a Group 1 win in him next year and aims to run the son of Viscount in the Rosehill Guineas in March.
